James Kreger, Past President
Thomas Circle Singers
James Kreger is in his 29th season as Artistic Director of the Thomas Circle Singers. He has been an advocate of contemporary American music and has been praised for his programming of works by emerging composers. Under his direction, the chorus has been hailed by the Washington Post for its “glowing performance” and for being “well focused, fluent and singing expressively.” Critics have noted that “conductor James Kreger has his ensemble singing weightlessly and with agility. Soft singing is much more difficult to sustain than loud, but pitch never wavered and long phrases emerged sounding fresh and easy.” In recognition for his work with TCS, James was honored with WETAFM’s Hometown Hero award. He has directed choral programs in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and the Virgin Islands. He has led workshops and choir festivals throughout the mid-Atlantic region, as well as making appearances with choral ensembles as guest conductor. He holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Westminster Choir College. James was the recipient of an Alumni Merit Award from his alma mater in 2008 in recognition of his accomplishments in and contributions to choral music. He is on the music faculty of Landon School in Bethesda, MD, and is the Organist and Choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Olney, MD. He is in his second year as President of the MD/DC Chapter of ACDA.
