Ocie S. Banks is the Vocal & General Music Teacher at Rosaryville Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Being a product of Prince George’s County Public Schools, Ocie is elated and blessed to be serving in the county where he grew up and where his love of choral music was birthed and nurtured.
Ocie holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Choral & Vocal Music Education) from George Mason University. There he studied voice with world-renowned and Grammy-award winner Prof. John S. Aler. His Choral Music Education professor and mentor is Dr. Lisa A. Billingham.
Recently, Ocie had the pleasure to participate in the 2015 ACDA Voices United Conducting Masterclass with Dr. Bruce Chamberlain of Arizona State University. His conducting teachers include: Dr. Lisa A. Billingham and Dr. Stan Engebretson.
Ocie is also an active member in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and National Association for Music Educators. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Maryland/DC Chapter of ACDA.
Ocie served as the Minister of Music and Worship Leader at Victory Praise Church of God (Washington, DC) for many years. He is active vocal coach, clinician, and adjudicator. Ocie has been privileged to serve as a choral festival assessment & district chorus adjudicator in Arlington, VA and sight-reading adjudicator in Prince George’s County, MD.
Ocie is a private voice/piano teacher at and the Academy Administrator with Back to Basics Music Academy in Landover, MD, where he oversees the overall teaching faculty and students.
Ocie serves as an assistant director for the Prince George’s County Public Schools Middle School Honors Chorus. Ocie hopes to pursue graduate studies in choral conducting.
